Are you a fan of the sublime and subtle contrasting gradients that form the Aqua style? Is iTunes 9 too reminiscent of Windows XP for you in its straight gray gradients? After all, what was wrong with Aqua in the first place? Introducing AguaT, the comprehensive Aqua solution for iTunes 9. Because change for change’s sake isn’t necessarily a good thing.
What does it change?
One of the first things one notices about the new iTunes 7 interface is the newly styled play buttons, and after that, the new, darker source menu highlight. AguaT restores both of these elements to there original aqua state. The scroll button widgets also conform back to the Aqua theme congruent with Tiger, and the old green icons are back in their subtly shaded glory.
But AguaT doesn’t stop there. The bottom buttons that were metallifized many versions ago are back in style and looking better than ever. Even the new view selector is lickably shiny.
And in one last stroke, AguaT renames iTunes’ file types: Would you rather have a column that said ‘MPEG Audio File’, or ‘MP3′? ‘AAC Audio File’, or just ‘AAC’? This dramatic simplification saves space on screen if you have the Kind column visible in iTunes, and makes it more informative by shortening the names so as to eliminate the ellipses.
Now with bigger icons!
No longer will a green iTunes pixelate your Cover Flow; AguaT now comes with a suite of lickable and Leopard-ready 512×512 icons for each and every type of iTunes file.How does it work?
AguaT works by replacing elements of the /resources/ folder in the iTunes application. These changes are permanent to an installation of iTunes, so if you think you may want to revert back to the default iTunes 9 theme, you should back up iTunes.app before installation.
AguaT 1.4 ONLY works with iTunes 9.0.1. If your iTunes is out of date, head over to Apple and upgrade. If there’s a new iTunes version that AguaT isn’t yet compatible with, be patient – I can only work so quickly. :) If it’s been a while though, by all means drop me a line and tell me to get going.

I just installed this and it looks great! I have no idea why Apple changed the interface appearance for iTunes. It looks hideous compared to the default Aqua!
